Chronicles of Hotels: Movenpick Hotel, Cebu

I cannot reiterate enough the importance of a fabulous hotel. Whenever I travel, I do not pour all my money into my accommodations but I also dislike the concept of scrimping to the point of discomfort. I am not a very picky traveler {heehee} but I do want that every single cent of my and my companion's money is worth it.

At our recent trip for my friend Kat's wedding, I met the hotel which used to be Hilton, Möevenpick. Member of  Swiss hotel chain, Möevenpick, it's situated in the strip of resort hotels where Shangri La Mactan is, too.

All rooms get a Nemo in the tub!

According to my favorite tool of the moment, Google Zeitgeist, which says what was most searched last year, Movenpick was the second most Googled travel destination. Probably because it was new and has this contemporary blue and white design that's very Instagrammable, is why.

I am no hotel expert and I only travel enough to satisfy my wanderlust, as far and as comfortable my pesos would take me. Allow me to share my thoughts on our recent stay at Mövenpick Hotel:

  • Smooth and seamless booking. My friend Can was the one who did our booking for the hotel, some six months ago, I think. It pays to book early because of discounts {can go as low ast 50%, depending on which hotel of course}.
  • Loved Ibiza Beach Club. It was most certainly the best part of my stay there, as we'd always stay in this part of the beach {can you believe I didn't even dip my feet in the ocean?}. We often had our champagne fix in this part of the resort where the staff are nice and accommodating.
  • Reasonable price for pressing services. I couldn't get my domestic diva side to work while I was in Cebu so I had my gown pressed and it was just PHP 120!
  • Patient hotel staff. I could tell that the hotel was teeming with guests to the Dy-Peters nuptials and inevitably, there were some reservations that got mixed up, including our own. Thankfully, with Nicole's rigorous explanations, Agoda's assistance and Moevenpick's patience, we were able to iron out the details of our reservations and enjoyed our stay very much.
  • Clean linens. There was a time that we had to request our bath to be cleaned again, the blowdryer took a bit long to arrive, but other than that, everything was ok.
  • Möevenpick is not at all a budget hotel resort. But with the right tools, such as Agoda.com, you can get better deals with rates.
  • There's a lovely Italian restaurant outside of it called Giusseppe's and a nice spa place called Tree Shade Spa. I still dream of both to this day.

Overall: I liked Möevenpick, I'd recommend it to anyone staying in Mactan but then again, Cebu is brimming with lots and lots of beaches so go and look for those, too!
