A Different View
In the movie Dead Poets' Society, John Keating {played by Robin Williams} tells his Poetry students to walk over the teacher's desk to see the world from another perspective. Soon enough, all his students were traipsing through his desk and around. "Sometimes, you need to see things from a different perspective," says Keating. A slight change in height, in position or direction shows a varying point of view.
I remembered this particular scene when my yoga teacher rationalized the headstand pose. "Your heart will be pumping new blood into your veins, and you will see the world differently. Just like in life, sometimes, to see the answers, you need to look at life from a different perspective."
And then I understood. I originally thought it was just an exercise on who can lift themselves well.
I'm standing across my former self. It's been a while since I've seen things differently and for the first time, I was not afraid to be on this side. All it took was climbing some tables, an attempt at a headstand, shoulder stands, a different perspective.
Needless to say, I am sticking with my yoga place, no matter how hard it is to come to it. And will work on that headstand, too. Funny what a yoga session can do.
